Two LSE Master’s Awards (LMA) are reserved for African bidders of MSc / MA dual degree in Global Media and Communications (LSE and UCT). Awards cover the first year of study at LSE and students are expected to self-fund their second year of study at UCT. Bidders must be Africans. Rewards are vehicles tested up to the value of full fees and living costs of £ 1,200 per month. Students interested in the scholarship opportunity are recommended to apply as soon as possible. 31 March 2021 latest. If they receive an offer, they must complete the LSE Postgraduate Financial Support Application by the following date: April 29, 2021 at 17:00 GMT. Applications are open to a unique two-year program that allows students to study for one year at LSE in the UK’s media capital London and one year at the University of Cape Town (UCT), the top-tier university in Africa. The continent with close links to Cape Town’s media and film industry and the NGO sector.

The Masters / Master’s (LSE and University of Cape Town) in Global Media and Communication aims to provide:

  • critical exploration of mediation in a global context by examining globalization processes in relation to organization, production, consumption and representation in media and communication;
  • A range of study opportunities by flexibly adapting the program to develop specialist interests, resulting in an independent research project on global media and communication issues at LSE and a further thesis or creative media production at UCT;
  • preparation for senior employment in media and communication related professions anywhere in the world;
  • Opportunity to do an internship in Cape Town.

Students at this degree will be trained to study the intersection of media and globalization from an African perspective. They will gain an understanding of global media and communication in an African context and African media and communication in a global context.
